Continuing Education

Western's Continuing Education programs go beyond the university's traditional course offerings to provide students and community members with more choices. Courses for credit and non-credit are offered during evenings, weekends, and Summer Sessions. Western also offers coursework at numerous communities throughout Montana, as well as online. Caspari Montessori Institute - Montessori is an internationally known approach to education developed by Dr. Maria Montessori who transformed early education by following principles based on scientific observation, respect and the child’s need to learn by doing. UM-Western has collaborated with Caspari Montessori Institute to offer university credit for the Montessori early childhood courses.


Virtual Education Software - Computer-based programs covering a variety of subject areas including behavior management, attention deficit disorder, violence in schools, learning disabilities, inclusion and more. *See Internet/Computer-based Courses for more details.

Gatlin Online Career Training Courses - Online certificate programs in medical transcription, administrative medical specialist with medical billing and coding, advanced coding for the physician's office, human resources for healthcare providers, pharmacy technician, freight broker/agent, project management, records management and travel agent training.

Certified Instruction Services - E-mail based courses in basic Internet skills, Microsoft PowerPoint, web page development, windows, databases, and word processing.
