| What: | This is a hypertext book, that is, a collection of web pages, to be browsed online, downloaded in part or whole, searched, and used to compare to other Vigilante literature. It was scanned in by Louis Schmittroth with explicit permission of the authors, who hold the copyright. |
| Aim: | We want to provide in one location, on the web, as much of the Montana Vigilante literature as we possibly can. This will make it easier to compare the various publications, and we hope will shed light on just what happened in the hanging spree of January and Feburary of 1864. It may also clarify the guilt or innocence of some of the participants and/or their victims. |
| Why: | This book puts a human face on the men hanged by the Vigilantes in January and February of 1864, including the central figure, Henry Plummer. There is material in the book that has not appeared in print before, and is crucial to an understanding of the Vigilante era of Montana history. |
