Student Employment

UM-Western's Facilities Services Division depends greatly on student labor to accomplish its given duties. Of the total hours worked per year by facilities personnel, nearly 40% of those are completed by students. Students are utilized in virtually all areas of UM-Western's facilities operations including grounds maintenance, traffic control, motor pool maintenance, clerical, and custodial. Student employees also assist UM-Western's carpenters, plumbers, and electricians when needed.

How Do I Apply for a Position?

Any student wanting to work on campus must begin at the Financial Aid Office. After completing the necessary paperwork required by financial aid, the student will be given a card to take to prospective departments for employment. If you are looking for a job in Facilities Services, you must take your card to the Facilities Services Office.

Facilities Services will require you to fill out an Employment Application prior to anyone being hired. This application gives Facilities Services necessary information for its computer generated work order program. It also gives the student's supervisor a schedule of hours the student employee will be able to work.

At the time a student is hired by Facilities Services, that student worker will be assigned to a particular area of employment and supervisor. The student employee will then work with the supervisor to complete a work schedule that will benefit both the student and the supervisor.
