Head Coach, Kevin EngellantKevin Engellant, Head Coach

Kevin Engellant begins his 12th season as head coach with a career record of 242-104. Engellant picked up his 200th career win on December 10, 2005 with a 65-64 win over Eastern Oregon. Last year, the Lady Bulldogs were 26-6 overall and 11-3 in the Frontier Conference. The team finished 2nd in the Conference and advanced to the NAIA national tournament for the eighth straight season and Coach Engellant was named WBCA Regional Coach of the Year.  Kevin has also been named Frontier Conference Coach of the Year three times.  Academically last season, Western was ranked sixth in the nation in the WBCA team honor roll program with a team GPA of 3.53.  

Engellant is a 1986 graduate of Geraldine High School and a 1991 graduate of Western Montana College. In 1994, he received his M.E. from the University of Montana. As a student athlete at Western, Engellant earned All-Conference, All-District, Academic All-Conference, and Academic All-American honors. Engellant played on the 1989 Bulldog team that upset the defending national champions in the NAIA National Tournament’s opening round game. He spent five years, two as an assistant and three as head girl’s basketball coach, at Beaverhead County High School. In 1995, he guided BCHS to the Class A State Championship and was named the Central A Division and the Montana Coach’s Association Class A Coach of the Year.
In addition to his coaching duties, Engellant teaches in the business department and is the Director of Western’s Swysgood Technology Center Computer Lab. In 2003, he was inducted into the University of Montana Western Hall of Fame. Kevin and his wife Roxanne are the parents of J.T., age 14, Courtney, age 12 and Kyler, 20 months.


 


 













 Assistant Coaches

Pat Wulfekuhle is in his second season as a Lady Bulldog assistant and head Junior Varsity coach. Wulfekuhle is a 1984 graduate of Thompson Falls High School and a 1998 graduate of Western Montana College.  His coaching career began at Dayton High School of Dayton, Nev. where he coached for three years. His collegiate coaching career includes one year at Lassen Community College, two years at Santa Barbara City College, and two years at Grays Harbor College. Pat and his wife Kelly are the parents of Cody, 20, Avery, 18 and Taylor, 16.


 
Kayla Olsen 

Kayla Olsen is in her second season as a student assistant. She is a 2002 graduate of Grass Range High School of Grass Range, Mont. She earned All-Conference honors in basketball and All-Conference and All-State honors in volleyball.  She is majoring in secondary education with majors in history and health and human performance.  She is the daughter of Ray & Teri Olsen.









 





Crystal Kain

Kain is in her first year as a Lady Bulldog assistant after a successful playing career. She is a 2003 graduate of Charlo High School of Charlo, Mont.  In high school she played volleyball, basketball, and track.  She earned All-Conference and All-State honors in basketball and was selected MVP of the Class C State Tournament. Kain transferred to Western from Wenatchee Valley College.  At Wenatchee she earned Academic All-Conference honors.  Kain was a two-time Academic All-Conference and Academic All-American. She is the daughter of Ron Kain and Sheryl Knudsen-Kain.









 Becky (O'Neil) Kurtz

Kurtz is in her first year as a Lady Bulldog assistant after a successful playing career. She is a 2003 graduate of Flathead High School of Kalispell, Mont. She earned All-Conference and All-State honors in basketball and played on two State AA championship teams in both. She transferred from Weber State University.  At Weber, Kurtz earned first team All-Conference honors and was a two-time Academic All-Conference selection. In her first year at Montana Western, O’Neil was named the Frontier Conference “Newcomer of the Year.” and earned 1st team All-Conference honors, third team NAIA All-American honors and Academic All-Conference honors. Last year, she again received All-Conference and All-American honors and Academic All-Conference honors.  She is a math major and the daughter of Ralph and Carol O’Neil.
