Bulldog Football Signs Oregon Student-Athletes

Two Oregon student athletes have signed Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of intent to play football at the University of Montana Western, according to head coach Rich Ferris.

Chris Nagel is a 6', 195 lb running back from Canby, Ore. He will graduate this spring from La Salle High School. This year Nagel has recorded 1,1452 rushing yard of 203 attempts and 11 rushing touchdowns as well as 347 reception yards for 24 receptions and four reception touchdowns.

Nagel was voted MVP in 2006 and 2007, he was offensive player of the year in 2006 and 2007, and made first team All-conference both years. He also made second team All-state in 2006 and 2007, played in the Shrine game, and in the Les Schwab Bowl in 2008.

Nagel is the son of Art and Machelle Nagel. He plans to major in secondary education a UMW. Nagel participates in tennis, snow boarding, and was part of a Journey Retreat.

Jeff Sawyer is a 6’3”, 215 lb defensive-end/tight-end from Portland, Ore. He is in his senior year at La Salle High School. Sawyer made first team All-League in 2006 and 2007..

“Jeff has a fantastic motor,” said Coach Ferris. “He is able to make plays off the edge or down the field because he is tenacious from snap to whistle.”

Sawyer is the son of Linda and Joe Sawyer. He has a 2.8 G.P.A. and also plays basketball. Sawyer plans to major in Business Management at Montana Western.

Black Edges White in Spring Scrimmage

The Black team came from behind to edged the White team 17-16 in the University of Montana Western spring scrimmage.

The first quarter was all defense. The Black team saw their first scoring opportunity end on a blocked field by Matt Pancich.

The White team drove down to the ten yard line only to see their scoring opportunity end with a fumble.

The second quarter belonged to the Black team as they scored 10 unanswered points. Scott Keiter-Charles opened the scoring with a 24 yard field goal. A Garrett Graves to Omar Rodriguez 12 yard scoring strike made it 10-0 at the end of the first half.

The White team took control in the third quarter. A Trent Harrison to Connor Furhman td pass followed by a Colton Woods field goal tied the game with 4:39 remaining in the third quarter.

The White team took their first lead on a 43 td strike from Harrison to Woods. The White team failed on a two-point conversation try to lead 16-10 with a 1:09 left in the quarter.

The Black team regained the lead with a Graves to Martin Iosefo touchdown pass with 4:33 remaining in the game.

The Black defense then kept the White team out of the end zone on two straight possessions as time ran out.

The scrimmage raised 534 dollars for the fight against cancer. The funds will be given to trainer Janelle Handlos who will donate to a cancer organization of her choice.

Bulldog Football Signs Three From Spokane

Three Washington student athletes have signed Frontier Conference/NAIA letters of intent to play football at the University of Montana Western, according to head coach Rich Ferris.

Jonathan Binschus is a 6’3”, 200 lb defensive end/middle line backer from Spokane, Wash. He will graduate from Rogers High School this spring.

Binschus recorded 150 tackles, breaking the school record for most tackles in a season. He also had three quarterback sacks. Binschus was also voted defensive MVP in 2007 and team captain.

“Jonathan has great explosion off the line and a fantastic motor,” said Ferris. “He can expect to compete right away in our defense.”

Binschus also participated in track and field and basketball.

He has a 3.4 G.P.A, is a member of the 2007 National Honors Society, Binschus is the son of Jeremiah and Debra Binschus and plans to major in education.

Charlie Eglet is a 6’2”, 210 lb tight end from Spokane, Wash. He will graduate this spring from Lewis and Clark High School.

Eglat had eight catches for 98 yards and one touchdown.

“Charlie will be a great addition to our team in the Fall,” said Coach Ferris. “In his team’s run fro state title, Charlie came on strong and we look forward to watching him grow.”

Eglet is the son of Steve and Vicki Eglet and his UMW major is undecided.

Isaac Fry is a 5’10” 200 lb lineman from Spokane Wash. He will also graduate from Lewis and Clark High School this spring.

Fry earned first team all Greater Spokane League honors at tackle in 2006 and 2007. He was voted best offensive lineman in 2006 and 2007. Fry also participated in wrestling.

“Isaac is a very aggressive offensive lineman,” said Ferris. His determination will make him a valuable addition to the team.”

Fry is the son of Dan and Shelly Fry. He has a 3.7 G.P.A. and is on the Honor Role. His Montana Western major is undecided.

Bulldog Football Signs Idaho Prep Star

An Idaho prep star signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent to play football at the University of Montana Western, according to head coach Rich Ferris.

Kyle Graves is a 5’10”, 175 lb wide receiver/ defensive-back from Coeur d’Alene Idaho. He will graduate from Lake City High School this coming spring.

In his high school career, Graves rushed for 227 yards and two touchdowns on 19 attempts. He caught 51 passes for 616 yards for six touchdowns.

Defensively, Graves recorded 21 tackles, three interceptions and had 468 return yards. He also participated in track.

“Kyle has the explosiveness to make him a touchdown threat every time he has the football in his hands,” said Coach Ferris.

He was selected to the Honor Role and is a DECA State medalist.

Graves is the son of Bill and Korii Graves. He plans to major in Health and Human Performance.
