"A Doll's House" by Henrik Ibsen will be performed April 17 to 19 in the small auditorium. Admittance is free, donations are welcome. Cathy FlanaganUniversity of Montana Western junior Cathleen Flanagan is learning by doing. Flanagan is a secondary education major with a minor in teaching drama. Experience One is allowing her the opportunity to cast, direct, produce and stage a full-scale production while she is an undergraduate. The four credit class, Drama 419 - advanced directing, is required for her to graduate and requires her to direct and produce a full-scale production. "The block system allows me to take a full load of classes and still have plenty of time to produce a play. At another school, where I'd be taking five or six classes at one, it wouldn't be possible," Flanagan said. This undertaking is Flanagan's first full-scale production, she says it is a lot of work but that it is going pretty well. "I have a cast I can count on and friends who have helped me put up the set," she said. Flanagan, free to chose any play to produce, decided to stage "A Doll's House" by Henrik Ibsen, the classic 1879 drama about the double standard that existed between men and women in the 19th century. "I chose this play because after I read it in a history of drama and literature class here at Montana Western, it just stayed with me," Flanagan said, "It pulls the audience's emotions in two different directions and really makes you look at yourself." "This has been a great experience and now I know I will be more confident teaching drama because I have gone through the entire process here at Montana Western," Flanagan said. "A Doll's House" will be performed April 17 to 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the small auditorium of Main Hall on the Montana Western campus. Admittance is free and donations are welcome. The cast of Flanagan's production is made up of other Montana Western students and alumni.
