UMW conducts national search for new provost


The University of Montana Western has launched a national search for a new provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.

“The position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Montana Western’s long-standing legacy in higher education and its innovative Experience One curriculum,” Chancellor Beth Weatherby said. “We’re excited to begin a national search to bring the best candidate on board as our next provost.”   

Experience One, now celebrating 10 years of success, had led to record growth in enrollment, retention and completion, including a 41 percent growth in full time enrollment.

Experience One offers a single class at a time and encourages real-world, hands-on experience in learning.  

The provost is a member of the chancellor’s cabinet and works closely with the chancellor and vice chancellor for administration and finance.

The national search is being conducted by Myers McRae Executive Search and Consulting. Nominations and applications for the position should be directed to

Sylvia Moore, Ph.D., an educational consultant who has acted as interim provost since July of 2015, is chairing the search.
