Eudora Email FAQs
Q: Why are my messages not being delivered? **Note: It is normal for email messages to take at least a few minutes to be delivered. Patience is a virtue. A1: If you are using internal distribution lists (lists created by your address book), you need to limit the amount of addresses in the lists to less than 12. In this case, you might have to create multiple lists and send them one at a time. If the lists are over 12, there is a possibility that your message will not be delivered and you not be notified that it wasn't delivered. A2: In recent years there has been a number of "Blacklist" companies starting up. These companies will test email servers to see if they are SPAM servers. The problem with these companies is that they don't always notify their customers that a server has been removed from their lists. There are still some companies out there that classify Western as a SPAM server and therefore block our emails even though the anti-spam software was implemented in 2000. Go to topQ: What does "Could not open the file z:\eudora\eudora.log for writing" mean? A: This message means that your z: drive is over quota (too many files in it). One place to begin deleting files is in your attachment folder. This is where any attachments that you receive will be stored. It is located in z:\eudora\attach or z:\attach. It is important to not delete any other files or folders located in the Eudora folder. Go to topQ: What is the message "Mailbox A: This message means that one of your mailbox table of contents (TOC) has been corrupted. You must choose "create new" for the problem to be resolved. The problem with this is usually that you have more than 100 email messages in that particular folder or Eudora was not shut down properly. It is beneficial to organize your new emails and put them in separate folders. Keeping your Inbox, Outbox, and Trash folders cleaned up will also let your computer run faster when Eudora is running. Go to TopQ: Why can't I open an attachment? A: One reason that you might not be able to open an attachment is that the attachment is no longer there. Check your z:\attach folder or z:\eudora\attach folder to verify that the file is there. If a box opens that asks which program you wish to open the file with then one possibility is that you don't have a program that will open that type of file. In this case contact the ITS. The other possibility is that the file name is too long for Eudora to recognize it. This is the case if you can't read the entire attachment filename in the email message. The file must be renamed to a shorter filename in order to be opened. Go to topQ: How many messages are in my Inbox or another mailbox? A: In order to check the number of messages in a particular mailbox you must first open that mailbox. The first number in the lower left-hand corner of the mailbox is the number of messages (e.g. 24/59k/0k). The second number is how much space those messages are taking up and the third number is how much space is wasted by the mailbox. Q: What is a Filter and how do I use it? A: A Filter in Eudora is used to manage emails. One example is to delete SPAM messages automatically. You can view the online tutorials on creating filters here: Q: A:
