Annual Program Assessment Summary Report, AY 2006-07
Written by Randy Horst

After reviewing surveys of current art students it was decided that two changes were needed in the Foundation portion of the program. First, reinstate the ART 143 2-D Design/Color Theory class as a required course for the major (explanation: in an attempt to accommodate the introduction of Art studio classes into the General Education program ART 105 Introduction to Art & Design was created to replace ART 143, but having ART 105 primarily populated with non-Art majors was reducing the effectiveness of the class for the Art majors, therefore, one section of ART 143 will be offered each fall semester specifically for Art majors). Second, require new Freshmen Art majors to take ART 143 2-D Design/Color Theory and ART 141 Drawing specifically in blocks 3 and 4 respectively (explanation: prior to block scheduling Freshman Art majors were required to take these two classes in their fall semester; currently the majors are choosing from a variety of classes offered throughout their freshmen year resulting in a slow start within the curriculum and a lack of social cohesion among the underclass Art majors that needs to be addressed with the above change).

The review of the single graduate review submitted this year did not reveal any problems that needed to be addressed in the program.

It was decided the best mechanisms to collect benchmark samples were as part of the Emerick Art Scholarship Sophomore application portfolio and as part of the Senior Project/Thesis/Internship evaluation portfolio beginning the 2006-07 academic year.
