Equestrian team successful in Bozeman

The University of Montana Western Equestrian team competed at the Montana State University Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Horse Show in Bozeman, Mont. on Dec. 3 and 4. The team competed in two western shows on Saturday and one English show on Sunday. Other teams in the event were Carroll College, College of Southern Idaho, Montana State University, University of Montana, Rocky Mountain College and Utah State University. The team competed in two western shows on Saturday and one English show on Sunday. Other teams in the event were Carroll College, College of Southern Idaho, Montana State University, University of Montana, Rocky Mountain College and Utah State University. Both Montana Western teams had success at the event with the teams as well individual riders coming away with good showings and honors. Saturday Morning Western Show Bess Slicer started out the show with a first place position in walk trot. Caiti Masters also took first in beginning walk jog lope. Chelan Taylor placed first in her advanced walk jog lope while George Lawson placed fifth. Caitlin Halliwell placed third and Allison Pugh placed fourth in novice horsemanship. In open horsemanship, Bryne Kilgore placed fourth. Jenny Winfield finished first in open reining. Overall the team took reserve high point team honors. Saturday Afternoon Western Show In open reining, Winfield placed second, Kilgore placed third and Bredl finished sixth. Kilgore placed third and Winfield placed fourth in open horsemanship. Brenna Dwyer placed fourth and Linda Sieverkropp placed sixth in advanced horsemanship. In novice horsemanship, Halliwell took sixth place. Lawson placed first in advanced walk jog lope and Slicer finished off the day with a second place in walk trot. The equestrian team also took reserve high point team and Kilgore received the reserve high point rider. Sunday Morning English Show Amanda Gelderman placed first in open over fences while Brianna Hatt-Liebsch placed fifth and Bredl placed sixth. Sieverkropp took second in intermediate over fence, Halliwell took third and Callison placed fourth. Taylor placed third in novice over fences and Gelderman placed fifth in open flat. Callison placed first in intermediate flat and Halliwell took sixth. Lawson finished off the event by placing second in advanced walk trot canter.
