By Lowell Peterson University of Montana Western head men’s basketball coach Steve Keller announced the signing of Shyke Smalls, a 6’0 senior guard from Great Falls, Mont., to a Frontier Conference/NAIA Letter of Intent. “We are excited Shyke has decided to join our basketball program at Montana Western,” Keller said. “Shyke has great speed and quickness and is a very athletic Montana guard. His three-point shooting has also improved, which makes him very hard to defend.” Smalls has established himself as one of the top players in Montana AA basketball. He leads the Great Falls High School Bison in scoring, assists, steals, made field goals, made three-pointers, made free throws and is second in rebounds. Smalls entered the last week of the regular season ranked in the AA top 10 in scoring, assists, steals, made field goals, made three-pointers and made free throws. In 20 games during the regular season, Smalls averaged 15.8 points per game and was the leading scorer in AA Eastern Conference games with an average of 17.6 points per game.
