University of Montana Western head football coach Ryan Nourse announced the signing of 12 new Bulldogs to Frontier Conference Letters of Intent. Eight of the new recruits hail from Montana, three from Idaho and one from Washington.
“This is another really competitive group of student-athletes to add to our team,” Nourse said. “We are continuing to build up our skill positions as well as the line of scrimmage with some really strong athletes. I look forward to watching these young men develop and contribute to Montana Western football.”
The new recruits are as follows:
Tanner Blair: RB, 5’11”, 195 lbs./White Sulphur Springs, Mont. Blair played running back, slot receiver and linebacker for White Sulphur Springs last year and was selected as a first team all-state selection. He was selected to play in both the 2013 East-West Shrine game and 2013 Bob Cleverly Class C All-Star game.
Jarred Simons: DL, 6’4”, 200 lbs./Laurel, Mont. Simons was an all-state defensive end his senior year and was selected as a defensive line alternate to the East-West Shrine Game. Simons plans to study elementary education at Montana Western.
Christian Hanser: QB, 5’10”, 172 lbs./Broadview, Mont. Hanser was a first team all-conference selection at quarterback and defensive back his junior and senior years. This year he received all-state honors and has been selected for the Bob Cleverly Class C All-Star Game. Hanser will pursue a business administration degree at Montana Western.
Kraig Nelson: TE, 6’2”, 205 lbs./Libby, Mont. Nelson was a first team all-state tight end last season for Libby and earned all-conference honors on both sides of the ball in the Northwest A class. Nelson will study education at Montana Western.
Riley Martello: DB, 6’, 175 lbs./Bozeman, Mont. Martello was an all-state linebacker this year and an honorable mention punt returner. He was selected to play in the 2013 East-West Shrine Game and Badlands Bowl. Martello will study education at Montana Western.
Adam Kay: WR, 5’9”, 155 lbs./Superior, Mont. Kay was an all-state selection at wide receiver in each of the past two years. This summer he will be playing in the Bob Cleverly Class C All-Star Game, the Badlands Bowl and the East-West Shrine Game as a wide receiver and safety. Kay finished his senior year with 80 receptions for 1,424 yards and 27 touchdowns. He plans to study education at Montana Western.
Andrew Wass: OL, 6’5”, 220 lbs./Manhattan, Mont. Wass earned all-conference honors on both sides of the ball his senior year. This summer Wass will play in the Class B All-Star Game in Billings. He plans to study business administration at Montana Western.
Brett Witt: WR, 5’10”, 160 lbs./Deer Lodge, Mont. Witt has been an all-conference selection on both sides of the ball the last two years and was selected to play in the 2013 Class B All-Star Game. Witt will pursue a major in wildlife biology at UMW.
John Munger: OL, 6’4”, 285 lbs./Meridian, Idaho Munger was an all-conference and all-state selection last year and was named to the all-academic team in each of the three years of his varsity career. Munger was selected to play in last November’s Idaho All-Star Shrine Game.
Bennett Gibson: QB, 6’2”, 220 lbs./Mount Vernon, Wash. Gibson was an all-conference performer at quarterback his junior and senior years. He passed for 2,156 yards last season and holds the Skagit County career passing record with 5,200 yards. Gibson will study business administration at Montana Western.
TJ Clarke: RB, 5’8”, 190 lbs./Boise, Idaho Clarke was an all-conference selection and played in the Idaho All-Star Shrine Game this season. Clark plans to study secondary education at Montana Western.
Collin Sale: WR, 5’8”, 155 lbs./Meridian, Idaho As a senior, Sale was an all-conference selection in Idaho’s largest 5A league. He was also a two-time state placer in wrestling and played in the 2012 Idaho All-Star Shrine game. Sale maintains a 4.0 GPA and will study biology in preparation for a career in physical therapy.
