Nampa, Idaho, Nov. 22-23, 2013 - In their opening game of the Wendy’s Classic basketball tournament the Montana Western men forced 20 turnovers to defeat Division II f Northwest Nazarene.

J-OThe Bulldogs limited their turnover total to 6. The Bulldogs led the entire game behind four Bulldog double-digit scorers.

In the second game they faced off against College of Idaho for the second time this season. The Yotes avenged their loss earlier this year to the Bulldogs, 81-76, to send UMW to 6-3 on the season. Jake Owsley was big for the Bulldogs as he recorded another double-double.

During the Northwest Nazarene game

  • Kris Castro recorded his fourth Offensive Rebound that led to a 3-point basket from Kurtis Parsons, that stretched the Bulldog lead from 3 to 6.
  • Owsley fouled out Kevin Rima, Northwest Nazarene's best post player, and hit 2 of 2 from the line to stretch the lead.
  • Won the turnover battle 20 NNU vs. 6 UMW. 
  • Maazin Butler was big down the stretch, multiple big baskets.

“We played great defense, and executed great offensively down the stretch,” said head coach Steve Keller after the win Friday night. “This is a huge win for us, our third versus NCAA Division II opponents.”
