The University of Montana Western men’s basketball team traveled to Havre, Mont., to take on Montana State Northern (MSUN) on Thursday, Jan. 9. The UMW men were unable to keep the No. 15 ranked Lights down in the second half losing their game by a score of 52-61.

Despite shooting just 33 percent from the field and behind the three point arc the Montana Western men went into halftime of their game with a 26-24 lead over No. 15 Montana-State Northern. Neither team shot lights out in the second half, UMW shot 38 percent while MSUN shot 40 percent from the field. The difference in the game seemed to come from the charity stripe. The Bulldogs went three for six from the foul line in the second half while the Lights were 15 of 21 hitting over 71 percent of their free throws.

The Bulldog men had nice contributions by Maazin Butler and his 13 points and Jordan Overstreet added 12 of his own while pulling down five rebounds. Jake Owsley just missed his sixth double-double on the year when he tallied 12 points and nine rebounds. The glaring stat was that the UMW men had only three assists. The Lights were led by Corbin Pearson’s double-double when he dropped 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Gabe Finley added 14 points while Roshawn West had 12 of his own.

The Montana Western men come home to take on Carroll College this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Carroll is currently 5-11 overall and 0-4 in Frontier Conference play, while the Bulldogs come into the game with a 9-6 overall record and 2-2 in Frontier Conference play.
