UMW News BureauThe Bulldogs face Montana Tech in Butte to open the second half of the season in Frontier Conference football. By Wally Feldt The University of Montana Western travels to Butte, Mont. to face the Montana Tech Orediggers in a Frontier Conference football matchup Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009. Kickoff is 1 p.m. from Alumni Coliseum on the Tech campus. The game will be broadcast in southwest Montana on KDBM radio. The two rivals will be playing for the coveted Digger-Bulldog cup. The Bulldogs are coming off a great comeback win against Rocky Mountain College where Montana Western scored 21 unanswered second half points to defeat the Bears 21-20. The win moves the Bulldogs to 2-3 in conference. The Diggers are coming off a 17-14 road victory over MSU-Northern. With the win, Montana Tech moves to third place in the conference. Montana Western opened the season against Tech at home and lost 28-42. Bulldog sophomore quarterback Michah Mamiya is third in the Frontier Conference in overall passing. He has thrown for over 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns so far this seasonand averages 256.6 yards and two touchdowns per game. Montana Western’s Craigh Cornelius leads the team and is tied for fourth in the Frontier in all-receiving categorieswith 36 catches for 466 yards and four touchdowns. Bulldog senior wide receiver Kahai Sevilla leads the team and the Frontier Conference in all-purpose yards per game at 130.2. As a team, the Bulldogs rank in the top 25 in the nation in four different categories: ninth in total pass offense (1,431); 12th in pass offense per game (286.2); 13th in punt yards per attempt (40.2); and 20th in first downs per game (21.2). Montana Tech’s Skyler Knuchel leads the Frontier Conference and is ranked sixth in the NAIA in rushing with 561 yards in six games this season. The Diggers are sixth in the nation in total team sacks on the seasonwith 16.5 per game.
