UMW News BureauThe Bulldog rodeo teams open the second half of the season in Bozeman, Mont. at the Montana State University Spring Rodeos April 8-11. By Wally Feldt [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="240" caption="Wyatt Smith"][/caption] The University of Montana Western Rodeo team opens their spring season in Bozeman, Mont. with two rodeos hosted by Montana State University (MSU) on Thursday, April 8 through Sunday, April 11 at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The evening performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. Slack performances are Friday at 10 a.m. and Sunday at 8 a.m. A Sunday matinee performance begins at 2 p.m. The Montana Western men’s team enters spring competition in first place in the Big Sky Region with a 350 point lead over second place MSU. The UMW women’s team is in second place, 359 points behind MSU. Wyatt Smith, Bulldog senior and defending national saddle bronc champion, leads the region in both all-around and saddle bronc riding. Smith is also second in steer wrestling. Senior Brent McInerney is in second place in the regional standings in tie down roping. Sophomore Kody Lahaye is second in team roping (header). Montana Western senior Bailee Jo Thompson leads the Big Sky region in women’s all-around. She is second in goat tying, third in barrel racing and sixth in breakaway roping. The top two men’s and women’s teams in the Big Sky Region automatically qualify for the College Nationals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo. June 13-19, 2010.
