UMW equestrian opens show season in style

The University of Montana Western Equestrian Team successfully began their show season by capturing the leading regional position in Western over the Oct. 23 and 24 weekend. UMW NEWS BUREAU The University of Montana Western Equestrian Team successfully began their show season by capturing the leading regional position in Western over the Oct. 23 and 24 weekend. The team traveled to Twin Falls, Idaho and competed in three western shows. The competition included The College of Southern Idaho, Utah State University, The University of Montana, Montana State University, Rocky Mountain College, and Carroll College. In the Saturday morning show, Samantha Essig placed fifth in walk trot section 1. George Lawson took second in walk trot section 2. In intermediate I Colleen Meagher took second and Amber Stine placed fourth. Kalani Sheelar took second in intermediate II section 1. Carissa Callison took first in intermediate II section 2. In novice section 1 Jordan Fuller placed fifth. In novice section 2 Brenna Dwyer placed fourth. Brenda Cole took second in advanced section 1. Kristin Bredl also took second in advanced section 2. In open, Jenny Winfield and Amanda Gelderman took second and third, respectively. In open reining, Gelderman took second and Winfield placed fifth. Gelderman won Reserve Champion High Point Rider. Bredl qualified for regionals in advanced. In the Saturday afternoon show, Gelderman took second, Winfield placed third, and Bredl placed sixth in open reining. In open, Winfield took second. Cole took second in advanced section 1. Dwyer took first and Fuller took second in novice section 2. In novice section 1, Linda Sieverkropp took first. Sheeler took second in intermediate II section 2. Lawson took first in walk trot section 1, and Essig placed fourth in walk trot section 1. The University of Montana Western Equestrian Team won Champion High Point Team. Winfield won Reserve High Point Rider. Cole qualified for regionals in advanced and Sieverkropp qualified for regionals in novice. In the Sunday morning show, Essig took first in walk trot section 1. Lawson also took first in walk trot section 2. Stine took first in intermediate I. Sheeler placed fourth in intermediate II section 1. Callison took first in intermediate II section 2. Fuller took second in novice section 1. Dwyer took first in novice section 2. Sieverkropp placed sixth in advanced section 1. In open, Gelderman, Winfield, and Bredl took second, third, and fourth, respectively. Bredl placed fifth in open reining and Gelderman brought home first. The University of Montana Western Equestrian Team won Reserve High Point Team. Gelderman won Champion High Point Rider. Essig qualified for regionals in walk trot.
