Women's basketball in Wyoming Thursday, Dec. 30

The University of Montana Western women’s basketball team will close out their 2010 non-conference schedule with an exhibition game against the University of Wyoming (UW) Cowgirls on Thursday, Dec. 30. The game will be played at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs, Wyo. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

 The Cowgirls currently hold a 9-3 record and are on a three-game winning streak that includes a 73-51 victory over The University of Montana Grizzlies on Dec. 21 in Missoula, Mont. The Cowgirls are led by seniors Hillary Carlson and Aubrey Vandiver. Carlson is a 6’3” forward and leads the team in scoring while Vandiver, a 5’10” guard, leads the team in rebounding. 

The Bulldogs will use their game against UW as a final tune-up before starting Frontier Conference play. Montana Western was able to head into the holiday break on a high note after posting a 111-53 home court victory over King’s College on Dec. 20. The victory over King’s College improved Montana Western’s overall record to 4-8. Statistically, the Bulldogs hold several impressive rankings within NAIA Division I. Montana Western is third in the nation in assists with 19.5 per game and fifth in the nation in both rebounding margin (11.75) and field goal percentage (.468).
