UMW NEWS BUREAU University of Montana Western head volleyball coach Lisa Griffiths announced the signing of Glacier High School (GHS) star Paige Latimer to a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent. “We are excited to have Paige join our program,” Griffiths said of her new recruit. “After a successful high school career, I am confident she will be able to step in and contribute to building the Montana Western volleyball program.” Latimer will graduate in spring 2011 from GHS in Kalispell, Mont. While at Glacier High, Latimer was a three-year letter winner; a program career record holder for aces and assists; a season record holder for aces and assists; a Montana East/West All-Star Game selection; the Glacier High School serving award winner for 2009 and 2010; an honorable mention setter in 2009; the recipient of the GHS 2010 Team Player Award; a second team all-conference and all-team setter in 2010; and the GHS volleyball team's 2010 co-captain. Griffiths said Latimer’s setting skills will soon become apparent to those she plays with and against. “Paige is a skilled setter who will quickly earn the respect of her hitters,” Griffths added. Latimer comes to Montana Western and Dillon, Mont. with history; her parents, Laurie and Dennis Latimer, are both Montana Western graduates and Latimer’s older sister, Chaeney, is currently pursuing a teaching degree at Montana Western. Laurie grew up in Dillon, graduating from Beaverhead High School before graduating from Montana Western (then Western Montana College) in 1983. Dennis played football for Western Montana College and also graduated in 1983. The Latimer’s other daughter, Kadie, is presently attending Montana Tech of The University of Montana. Paige Latimer plans to pursue a degree in education.
