Montana Western rodeo teams open fall season

The University of Montana Western (UMW) men’s and women’s rodeo teams opened the fall rodeo season at the Trapper Stampede Rodeo in Cody, Wyo. on Sept. 9 and 10. The event was hosted by Northwest College (NWC). The Stampede consisted of two rodeos, one on Friday, Sept. 9 and one on Saturday, Sept. 10. The event was hosted by Northwest College (NWC). The Stampede consisted of two rodeos, one on Friday, Sept. 9 and one on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Montana Western men’s rodeo team won the first rodeo, tallying up 900 points. Miles City Community College finished second with 554 points and Montana State University (MSU) was third with 475.5 points. The Montana Western Bulldogs' Bridger Chambers, who also plays basketball for the Bulldogs, won the All-Around Cowboy award with 283 points. Chambers won the team roping event with partner Chase Briggs and placed in the steer wrestling and tie down roping events. Kody Lahaye won the tie down roping event and A.J. St. Goddard finished first in bareback riding. With 157 points, the Montana Western women finished second behind MSU in the first rodeo with strong performances by Megan Crist and Cassidy Nordahl. Both women scored 78.5 points in the goat tying event. The Montana Western men finished third in the second rodeo, led by Tucker Zingg with 138 points. Zingg earned points in the bareback riding event and the team roping event with partner Tyler Wines. The Montana Western women finished third in the second rodeo with 126 points, receiving strong performances by Cassidy Nordahl, Kylene Reynolds, Justinn Marshal, Sammy Naveran, and Becky Jo Dumont. With the successful weekend the Montana Western men’s team (1,250.50 points) jumped to an early lead in the seven-team Big Sky Region (BSR) standings. Other members of the BSR are Montana State University, University of Montana, Miles Community College, Northwest College, Dawson Community College and Montana State University-Northern.
