On Thursday, Feb. 7, Montana Lt. Gov. John Walsh was on the University of Montana Western campus to tour Montana Western’s iconic first building, Main Hall, which was renovated with over $10 million in state funding authorized by the Montana Legislature in 2007 and 2009.

A bill before the 2013 Montana Legislature would include $4 million in funding for the final phase of the Main Hall renovation.

House Bill 14 would fund nearly $100 million dollars in building projects for several Montana University System campuses. The bill was sponsored by Rep. Galen Hollenbaugh (D). Gov. Steve Bullock supports the bill and is currently working to amend the bill to call it the Jobs and Opportunities by Building Schools (JOBS) bill. The bill includes projects from the Long Range Building Program (LRBP).

Lt. Gov. Walsh toured Main Hall and gave a brief address at 11 a.m. in the Beier Auditorium Lobby on the second floor of Main Hall.

The Main Hall Final Phase would focus on the 1924 and 1951 sections of the building to completely update mechanical, electrical, seismic and plumbing systems as well as to bring the building into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The final phase would also improve the building’s energy efficiency.
