Road Scholar is the new name for all of Elderhostel's learning adventures.
The University of Montana Western, which was established in 1893 as Montana's Normal School, has been a proud provider of Elderhostel programs since 1976. For the first decade or so, participants were housed and attended classes on campus in Dillon. Later, we branched out and began offering programs in nearby communities and Yellowstone National Park, housing not only Dillon participants - but all attendees - in commercial lodgings. 2008 brought us the opportunity to begin hosting the Targhee Institute's Elderhostel programs in Teton National Park, Idaho & Wyoming *a permittee of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. In 2010, all of our programs became "Road Scholar" programs, to connote the learning journey.
Road Scholar, whose concept came to life in 1975 (as Elderhostel), is a not-for-profit organization providing high-quality, affordable, educational adventures for adults.
