Salmon ID

Considered the gateway to the 2.4 million acre Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, Salmon also claims to be the "whitewater capital of the world" due to its location along the Salmon River, the longest, free-flowing river in the lower 48. The Salmon is called the River of No Return because flatboats carrying freight down river could not return over the hazardous rapids. Salmon, the town, can be found just west of the Continental Divide in the Lemhi Valley at the junction of U.S. HWY 93 and State HWY 28. Elderhostel accommodations in commercial facility ; meals at local restaurants.  Program includes a Salmon River float.
