Geology 409, Seminar in Geoarcheology
Spring 2004 trip to Mammoth Meadows, an 11,000+ year-old chert quarry in Southwest Montana. BLM archeologist, Mark Sant, led the class on this field trip to one of the oldest Native American archeological sites in Montana.
Kamren Koompin, Mark Sant (BLM archeologist and trip leader), Sage Hawley, and Kelsey Nielsen standing in one of the larger quarry pits. Discarded block of chert that apparently cracked during fire treatment. Ground surface in the quarry area. It is littered with chert blocks, many of which show signs of having been worked.
