Develop skills in map reading, the use of magnetic compasses, altimeter, and global positioning receivers. Learn to describe and plot locations by use of Latitude & Longitude, Universal Transverse Mercator, and the U.S. Public Land Survey System. Use learned GPS skills to execute traverses of land parcels and stream courses. Students will be taught downloading of GPS receiver data on to CD ROM map programs. Learned skills will be practiced on local field trips.
