Audrey Hall ‑ a photographer and filmmaker based out of Livingston, Mont. ‑ will present a screening of three short films at the University of Montana Western on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Swysgood Technology Center (STC) Great Room.

Hall will present her original film “Painting John,” an 11-minute documentary, which captures the unlikely friendship between a nomadic artist and a southwestern Montana rancher. “Painting John” won the 2012 Big Sky Film Festival Artistic Excellence Award and was also selected as one of 10 “Best Of/Shorts” films at the 2012-13 Rural Route Festival in New York. As a “Best Of/Shorts” film, “Painting John” is currently part of the Rural Route tour being screened across the globe.

Hall will also present two other short films entitled “High Lonesome” and “See You Then.” “See You Then” was a season finalist at the 2012 Nikon Film Festival.

Hall originally studied fine art photography at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. She found her photographic passion in the American West and splits her time working between Montana and New Mexico. Her photography is collected internationally and has been published in the New York Times, Sunset, Big Sky Journal, Mountain Living and Western Interiors and Design, to name a few.

“Painting John” marked Hall’s first foray into documentary short film production, and she will discuss the transition from still photography to video before the screening of her three films at Montana Western. She will also be on hand for a question-and-answer session following the films.

Earlier on Thursday, Hall will be visiting several Montana Western Fine Arts classes to discuss her work with students.

The evening screenings are free and open to the public. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
