Powell will present on the origin of the Burgess Shale fossils, an assemblage of mostly invertebrate fossils from the Canadian Rockies. Powell's presentation, "Pickled Priapulids: A Brine-Seep Origin for Fossil Beds of the Burgess Shale," is made possible by courtesy of a grant to UMW from the National Association of Geoscience Teachers Distinguished Speaker Program.
