UMW News BureauBozeman-based artist Richard Helzer will be featured at the University of Montana Western Art Gallery from Dec. 6 through Jan. 28 with an opening reception on Thursday, Dec. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. [caption id="" align="alignleft" width="240" caption=""GENETIC GRAFT," by Richard Helzer."][/caption] Bozeman-based artist Richard Helzer will be featured at the University of Montana Western Art Gallery from Dec. 6 through Jan. 28 with an opening reception on Thursday, Dec. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. Helzer’s exhibition, “Prophecies and Transformations,” will feature seven wood, polychrome and graphite sculptures. Helzer was a faculty member and administrator at Montana State University (MSU) for 39 years. He retired as a professor and director of the MSU School of Art in 2009. Helzer is now a full-time artist based in Bozeman, Mont. in addition to organizing educational art activities in Italy. He started a semester in Italy program for MSU art students in 2000. This past year he organized a semester in Italy program by combining students from Montana Western, Rocky Mountain College and the College of Great Falls. The first group will spend a fall semester in Italy in 2011. The Montana Western Art Gallery is located in the south wing and first floor of Main Hall on the University of Montana Western campus, 710 South Atlantic Street in Dillon, Mont. The Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
