The speaker will be Paul Lindholdt, a professor of English at Eastern Washington University. Lindholdt will present “The Fine Art of Bureaucracy,” which details the history of paintings commissioned by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The paintings were used to help justify the construction of dams, enlisting artists to paint favorable images or “imaginative aspects” of big dams and surrounding areas, Lindholdt said. A historian and collaborative author, Lindholdt holds a doctorate in textual editing and American literature.
