Influenced by an upbringing in a post-civil rights America, Jarrett’s art illustrates and seeks to confront ideas of racial difference and perceptions of racial equality. Jarrett’s work generally centers upon deconstructing and defragmenting her personal experiences as a black woman in America and, in turn, reconstructing and reassembling them in the hopes of inspiring viewers to consider their own roles in present day race relations. Jarrett currently lives in Missoula, Mont. where she teaches classes in visual art at the University of Montana. The Montana Western Art Gallery is located on the first floor and south entrance of Main Hall. The gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
