All steps are required to complete the process

Step 1: My Award Letter
All students must sign.  It is illegal for any other individual (even a parent) to accept aid on behalf of a student.

Step 2:  Loan Entrance Counseling

If you have accepted a loan and are a first time borrower at Western, you MUST complete the online entrance counseling.  Click on the link below to complete this process.

Stafford Loan Counseling

Step 3:  Signing Electronic Master Promissory Note

If you are a first time student loan borrower you must fill out a Master Promissory Note (MPN) to receive your loan funds.  If you are a transfer student from outside of Montana, you will likely have to sign a new MPN even if you have borrowed before.  Click on the link below to fill out your Master Promissory Note.

Step 4: 

Dependent Students

If you're parent is interested in borrowing a Parent PLUS loan and you accepted the PLUS loan in step one above, your parent will receive a postcard with detailed instructions to complete the process.  If your parent wishes to take out the PLUS loan and you did not accept this loan in step one above, please contact our office.

Independent Students

If you are interested in accepting an Additional Unsubsized Loan please contact our office.
