UMW News BureauBy Lowell Peterson The Montana Western Bulldogs equestrian team competed in three Western shows in Twin Falls, Idaho on Saturday, Oct. 8 and Sunday, Oct. 9. Two shows were held on Saturday and one on Sunday. The Bulldogs competed against teams from Montana State University, the University of Montana, Carroll College, University of Utah, Rocky Mountain College, and the College of Southern Idaho. At the Saturday morning show Bess Slicer placed fourth in the walk trot competition. Intermediate I was won by George Lawson and Caiti Masters placed fifth. Amber Stine took first in intermediate II section 1 and Jill Archibald placed fourth in intermediate II section 2. Carissa Callison and Caitlin Halliwell finished first in novice section 1 and novice section 2, respectively. Brenna Dwyer took first in the advanced competition. Three Bulldogs placed in open horsemanship: Jenny Winfield (first), Amanda Gelderman (fourth) and Kristin Bredl (fifth). In open reining, Gelderman took second and Bredl placed fourth. Montana Western was the Champion High Point Team and Gelderman won Champion High Point Rider. Stine qualified for regionals in intermediate. At the Saturday afternoon show Bredl finished first in open reining and third in open horsemanship. Winfield placed sixth in open horsemanship and Dwyer was fifth in advanced. Callison again took first in novice section 1 and Halliwell placed sixth in novice section 2. Lawson earned his second win of the day in intermediate II section 1 and Archibald took second in intermediate II section 2. In the Intermediate I competition Masters placed fourth and Slicer placed third in walk trot. Bredl won reserve champion high point rider and Callison qualified for regionals in novice. At the Sunday morning show Slicer placed third in walk trot and masters placed sixth in intermediate I. Lawson took second in intermediate II section 1 and Archibald finished first intermediate II section 2. In novice section 2 Halliwell and Stine placed fourth and fifth, respectively. Bryne Kilgore won advanced and Jordan Fuller placed third. Winfield placed third in open horsemanship and Gelderman placed fifth in open reining. Kilgore qualified for regionals in advanced. The Montana Western equestrian team will compete next in three English shows at the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont. on Saturday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 6.
