The Anaconda, Mont. native was a key player at the Westminster Tipoff Tournament as Montana Western won two games over the weekend. The Bulldogs beat No. 24 Saint Xavier (Ill) 93-92 and Northern New Mexico 96-68. Hurley scored 27 points in the win over Saint Xavier, 20 of which he earned in the second half as the Bulldogs came from behind for the victory. Down 91-86 with 1:11 to play, Hurley scored the last seven points for the Bulldogs, making two three-point shots and knocking down the winning free throw with 1.8 seconds left on the clock. Against Northern New Mexico, Hurley scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds while making all six of his free throws in just 25 minutes of action. Hurley averaged 18.5 points and five rebounds per game in the two Bulldog wins. He made 57 percent of his field goals (10-18) including three of seven three-point field goals. Hurley shot 93 percent from the free throw line (14-15). Other nominees were Byago Diouf of Carroll College, Matt Fogarty of Rocky Mountain, Nick Fromm of Lewis-Clark State and Jake Orchard of Westminster College.
