Bulldogs drop to Cal State Baptist

The University of Montana Western women’s basketball team battled a tough Cal State Baptist University Lancers team but ended up on the losing end, 80-71, in their final game at the Las Vegas Shootout Friday afternoon. By Lowell Peterson The University of Montana Western women’s basketball team battled a tough Cal State Baptist University Lancers team but ended up on the losing end, 80-71, in their final game at the Las Vegas Shootout Friday afternoon. The game was an exhibition game for the Bulldogs and did not count on their official win-loss record of 10-3. The Lancers improved to 8-1 on the season by winning their third straight game against a Frontier Conference school in Las Vegas. In their previous two games they defeated the University of Great Falls 87-49 and Carroll College in overtime 67-66. Sammi Bignell led the Bulldogs with 13 points and nine rebounds. Kelsey Callaghan scored a career-high 10 points with four rebounds and two assists. Nicole Tams had nine points, five rebounds and three assists. Hayley Pettit scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds, Roxy Thurman had seven points and Morgen Thacker finished with six. Amy Browne and Myriah Hicks each scored 15 points to pace the Lancers and Alexis Johnson and Brittney Lewis both added 12 points. Nicole Anderson led the team with nine rebounds and Simone Holmes and Hicks each had five assists. The Bulldogs open conference play against Lewis-Clark State and Westminster on Jan. 6 and 7 at home in the Straugh Gymnasium.
