UMW News Bureau

Three University of Montana Western Bulldog basketball players — Brandon Brown, Kyle Erickson and Hayley Pettit — received NAIA Division I All-America honors Tuesday.

The University of Montana Western senior guards Brandon Brown and Kyle Erickson received NAIA Division I men’s basketball All-America honors. Brown was named to the first team for the second consecutive year and Erickson was an honorable mention selection.

For the past two years, Brown has been the Frontier Conference Player of the Year and led the league in both scoring and assists. In the 2010-11 season Brown scored 20.2 points per game and dished out 4.8 assists per game. This past season Brown averaged 22.4 points and 4.6 assists per game. He was also named the Frontier Conference player of the week for Nov. 28, 2011 and named to the All-Tournament team at the national tournament this year.

Erickson capped off an excellent senior season by being named to the Frontier Conference first team and honorable mention All-American. Erickson averaged 11.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game this season, and his all-out hustle and energy on both ends of the court was invaluable for the Bulldogs. He was twice named the Frontier Conference player of the week and was one of seven players in NAIA Division I men’s basketball to be named the national player of the week.

University of Montana Western junior center Hayley Pettit earned third team All-America NAIA Division I women’s basketball honors. Pettit established herself as one of the top post players in the conference this season, averaging 16.6 points and 12.4 rebounds (fourth in the NAIA) per game. She was ranked in the top 50 in eight categories on the national level. Pettit recorded double-doubles (points and rebounds) in 17 games this season and was also named the Frontier Conference player of the week twice.
