On Wednesday, Dec. 19, the University of Montana Western men’s basketball team traveled to Montana State University-Billings and dominated in a 78-57 victory.
Montana Western’s Tyler Miller made the first basket of the game and the Bulldogs never looked back. They stretched their lead to 16 in the first half and took a 41-25 score into halftime.
In the second half, Montana Western never let the lead drop into single digits and increased it to 24 twice before settling the game at 78-57.
Miller led the Bulldogs with 15 points, going five of seven from the field and three of four behind the arc. Three other Bulldogs also reached double digits: Gabe Rucker with 13 and Kris Castro and Grant Fink with 11 apiece.
Montana Western held a slight edge on the glass (36-33), led by Vince Turk with nine, Fink with eight and Miller with five.
Maazin Butler and Jordan Overstreet each had three steals to help disrupt the Yellowjackets into 21 turnovers. Rucker had eight of the Bulldogs’ 14 assists.
Montana Western shot 42 percent (23-55) from the field and 46 percent (9-22) from three-point land. They held MSU-Billings to 33 percent (19-57) on field goals and 24 percent (10-41) on three-pointers.
The 9-4 Bulldogs will travel right back to Billings on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 28 and 29 for a couple of 5:30 p.m. match-ups. On Friday, Montana Western takes on Cincinnati Christian. The Bulldogs will face the University of Calgary on Saturday for their third meeting of the year. The previous two games saw Montana Western win 86-67 and 78-71 on their home floor.
