UMW equestrian successful in Billings

On Feb. 16 and 17, the University of Montana Western equestrian team traveled to Billings, Mont. to compete in three regular western shows and a regional western show hosted by Rocky Mountain College. Montana Western competed against Rocky Mountain College, Montana State University, Utah State University, the University of Montana and Carroll College.

The results for each show are as follows:

Montana Western Saturday morning show results:

In the walk trot division, Lauren Zobrist took first, Meghan Ortner placed second and Mickenlie Baxter came in fourth. In the Intermediate division, Kathleen Anderson took first and Delanie Greer placed second. In novice, George Lawson took third, Chelan Taylor placed fifth and Caiti Masters was sixth. Caitlyn Halliwell placed sixth in advanced. In open, Jenny Winfield took third and Linda Sieverkropp came in fourth. In reining, Winfield took fourth.

Montana Western Saturday afternoon show results:

Winfield placed fourth in open. In novice, Lawson took first, Greer came in second and Alison Pugh was fourth. In intermediate, Anderson placed second. In walk trot, Zobrist took first, Baxter came in second and Ortner came in third. The team tied for third place overall.

Montana Western Sunday morning show results:

In walk trot, Baxter took fourth and Zobrist placed fifth. In intermediate, Ortner came in second. In novice, Taylor took second, Pugh placed third and Greer came in fifth. In advanced, Jordan Fuller took third, Lawson placed fourth and Halliwell came in fifth. In open, Sieverkropp placed fifth. In reining, Winfield was fifth.

Montana Western Regional results:

Over the course of the year, Sieverkropp, Fuller, Halliwell, Lawson, Masters, Greer, Taylor, Anderson and Ortner all qualified for the regional show in their respective divisions. In walk trot, Montana Western took the class with Ortner in first and Anderson in second. In intermediate, Masters took second and Greer took sixth. In novice, Halliwell placed second and Lawson came in sixth. In advanced, Fuller took second and Sieverkropp took third.

Out of all of the institutions represented in the equestrian matches, and not counting regional champion Utah State University, Montana Western is sending the most individuals to the semifinals this year. The semifinals will be held at Moorehead State University in Morehead, Ky. at the end of March. The qualifying Montana Western student athletes are Jordan Fuller, Cait Halliwell, Cait Masters, Kathleen Anderson and Meghan Ortner.
