UMW rodeo kicks off spring season

The University of Montana Western men’s and women’s rodeo teams will start their spring season on Thursday, April 4 through Sunday, April 7 in Bozeman, Mont.
Both teams enter the spring season in second place behind Montana State University. The men’s team has 2,143.5 points while the women have compiled 1,391.75. The men from Montana State have 2,858.5 points and the women have 1,623.5.
The men’s all-around is led by Ty Erickson of Montana State with 858.5 points followed by Montana Western’s Kody Lahaye with 803 and Montana State’s Austin Barstow with 609.
Philip Shields is currently in eighth in saddle bronc riding with 163 points while Douglas Hall (50) is in 12th, Tyler Friend is in 14th (30) and Colby Giannini is in 15th (10).
Chase Redfield’s 401 points are good for third place in bareback riding while Tanner Denton’s 129 put him in eighth place.
The Bulldogs are well represented in bull riding with Luke Gee in first (300 points), Philip Shields in second (145) and Drew Baker in fifth (120).
In tie down roping, Jade Gardner leads the way with 455 points (first) followed by Kody Lahaye with 276 (fifth), Casey Waldhauser with 197 (sixth), Colton Sargent with 139 (eighth), Dalton Tamcke with 98 (12th), Payson Munns with 79 (14th) and Colt Gardner with 70 (15th).
Kody Lahaye is sitting in third place in steer wrestling (412 points) followed by Payson Munns in fourth (285.5), Michael Vines in seventh (191.5), Garrett Hanson in eighth (190) and Dalton Tamcke in 13th (70).
Colt Gardner’s 130 points put him in ninth place as a team roping header. Following Gardner is Kody Lahaye with 115 (11th), Kane Cartwright with 110 (12th) and Tyler Friend with 83.3 (15th).
As a team roping healer, Colton Sargent leads the pack with 413 points. Riley Bailey’s 166 points are good for sixth while Charles Briggs has 159 (seventh), Jade Gardner has 130 (ninth), Casey Waldhauser has 115 (11th), Colin Moore has 110 (12th) and Dalton Tamcke has 90 (14th).
Samantha Bird leads the Bulldogs in barrel racing with her 152 points (seventh) followed by Kylene Reynolds with 102 points (ninth) and Jody Gilson with 60 points (11th).
Haily Hamlin is leading breakaway roping with an even 500 points. Jade Gorrell is in third (175 points), Justinn Marshall is in fourth (159.8), Kaycee Lee is in ninth (119.5) and Kylene Reynolds is in 10th (110).
Megan Crist’s 460 points are good for second in goat tying followed by Justinn Marshall with 400 (third) and Jade Gorrell with 107 (ninth).
The Bulldogs will travel to Glendive, Mont. for their next rodeo on Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 28.
