Bulldog basketball signs four Montana prep stars to Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent. By Wally Feldt Four Montana prep student athletes have signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter to play basketball for the University of Montana Western, head coach Steve Keller announced today. Nolan Harris is a 6-foot-4 inch guard/forward from Ronan, Mont. Harris was a three-time all-conference selection. During his senior season, he averaged 12 points, five rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals per game. “We are excited that Nolan has chosen Montana Western,” Keller said. “Nolan has lots of potential and we are looking forward to watching his development as a student and player.” From the classroom, Nolan earned academic all-state honors, was a Montana finalist for the Wendy’s High School Heisman award and was selected to the National Honor Society. He is the son of Rod and Shawn Harris and is a 2009 graduate of Ronan High School. Nolan plans to major in biology. Wyatt O’Neill is a 6-foot guard from Arlee, Mont. He earned all-conference and all-state honors in basketball. In his senior season, he averaged 22 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.2 steal. For his career, O’Neill averaged 16 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 3.8 steals. “We are pleased that Wyatt has decided to attend Montana Western,” Keller said. “Wyatt is a good all-around athlete. His work ethic has made him successful on the court and in the classroom.” O’Neill also earned all-conference honors in football. He maintained a 3.4 GPA and was selected academic all-state in basketball, football and track. O’Neill is the son of Tim and Lorri O’Neill and is a 2009 graduate of Arlee High School. He plans to major in physical therapy. Mitchell R. Thompson is a 6-2 guard from Plains, Mont. He averaged 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals in his senior season. Thompson was a three-time first team all-conference selection and a two-time all-state selection. “We are excited that Mitch has joined our program at Montana Western,” Keller said. “Mitch is a hard worker on and off the court as proven by his basketball honors and his selection as valedictorian of his class.” Thompson maintained a 4.0 GPA, earned academic all-state honors and was selected to the National Honor Society. He is a 2009 graduate of Plains High School and is the son of David and Sandy Thompson. He will major in secondary education. Kyle Rider is a 6-foot-2 guard/forward from Darby, Mont. He averaged 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals per game. Rider was a two-time selection as his team’s defensive player of the year and a one-time selection as MVP. “We are pleased to announce that Kyle has decided too attend Montana Western,” Keller said. Kyle pleases extremely hard and we look forward to his years at Montana Western.” Rider is a 2009 graduate of Darby High School and the son of Marsha and Brett Rider. He plans to major in psychology.
