By Wally Feldt The University of Montana Western Bulldogs take the long road to Havre, Mont. for a Frontier Conference football game against the Montana State-Northern Lights at Blue Pony Stadium, 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19. The game will air in southwest Montana on KDBM radio. The Bulldogs are 0-2 on the season after dropping home games to Montana Tech (28-42 ) and Eastern Oregon (24-45). Northern is 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in conference games. The Lights beat the University of Calgary 31-19 and Rocky Mountain 38-37 and lost to Carroll College 50-13. Last year, Northern won both games against the Bulldogs. The Lights won in Dillon 30-9 and in Havre 38-28. Northern quarterback Jeff Van Nest is fourth in the conference in passing averaging 225 yards per game. Tyrell Cochrell leads the Lights and is second in the league in rushing with 92 yards per game. The Bulldogs’ Michah Mamiya is right behind Van Nest with 217 yards per game. Mamiya’s favorite target is Craigh Cornelius with eight catches per game. Jordan Clary leads the team and is fourth in the conference in rushing with 64 yards a game. Senior linebacker Chad Schira leads the Bulldogs, the Frontier Conference and is seventh in the nation in tackles with 15.5 tackles per game. Scott Keiter-Charles is sixth in the league with 8.5 tackles per game. The Lights and Montana Western are the two lowest scoring teams in the Frontier. Northern averages 27 points per game and the Bulldogs average 26.
