By Wally Feldt KellyLesterKelly Lester, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter from Nampa, Idaho, signed a Frontier Conference/NAIA letter of intent to continue her volleyball and academic career at the University of Montana Western. Lester transfers from Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) where she played both volleyball and basketball. Lester is a graduate of Nampa High School of Nampa, Idaho. “Kelly flew under the radar at Southwest Oregon Community College,” Montana Western volleyball head coach Katie Howells said. “She was in a position with lots of other players and didn’t get the opportunity to play as much as she would have liked. When she came to Montana Western on her recruiting trip it was evident we had found a great athlete and a great student. She is determined and has a never-ending supply of energy. She is quick and communicates very well on the court. Kelly will have a very positive influence here on and off the court." Lester earned all-conference and academic all-conference honors at Nampa High School. At SWOCC, she earned academic all-conference honors in both basketball and volleyball. “The coaching staff at Montana Western is so amazing, and I love the girls,” Lester said. “In the short amount of time that I spent with them, I felt as if we had known each other for years. I am looking forward to attending Montana Western in hopes to further both my volleyball and education career. I owe everything to coach Howells for giving me the opportunity to play for the Bulldogs and to my parents Wally and Jody Lester.” Lester will major in secondary education.
