UMW NEWS BUREAU The University of Montana Western basketball program signed Tyler Miller, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound guard/forward from Chandler, Ariz. Miller transfers to Montana Western from Western State College of Colorado where he averaged seven points and three rebounds per game last season. Miller will transfer into UMW in January and begin play in the 2011-2012 season. He will have three years of eligibility for the Frontier Conference university. “We are truly excited that Tyler has decided to join our basketball team,” Montana Western’s head basketball Coach Steve Keller said. “He was heavily recruited out of high school and we feel fortunate to have him for the next three years. Tyler is an outstanding student and has a tremendous work ethic on and off the floor.” Miller attended Class 5A1 Chandler Basha High School. While at Basha, he was a varsity starter for four years and scored over 1,650 points and 800 rebounds. He was a four-time All Central Region Selection and an Arizona High School All State Team selection four straight years. In 2009, Miller lead his Chandler Basha team to a region championship. Miller was also a 2009 McDonald All American Nominee. In 2009 Sporting News Basketball named Miller an All Phoenix Metro First Team Selection as he led his team to the 5A1 state semifinals. Miller was also selected to the 2009 Arizona High School Coaches 5A – 4A All Star Game. He graduated from Basha High with a 3.97 GPA. Miller in part decided to attend Montana Wester because of the small campus. His mother also grew up in Dillon and his grandmother worked at UMW. “Friends and family and knowing Coach Steve Keller over the last four years made it comfortable and it was a lot better fit for me for the next three seasons,” Miller said of joining the UMW program.
