The 114th University of Montana Western Commencement took place on Saturday, May 7 at 11 a.m. in the Straugh Gymnasium of the Montana Western campus. UMW NEWS BUREAU 2010 commencementThe 114th University of Montana Western Commencement took place on Saturday, May 7 at 11 a.m. in the Straugh Gymnasium of the Montana Western campus. The class of 2011 was comprised of 214 students, featuring 26 summer 2010 graduates, 60 fall 2010 graduates, and 128 spring 2011 applicants for graduation. The 2011 graduates were the fourth class to graduate after studying fully under Montana Western’s unique block scheduling system, Experience One, in which students take a single class at a time. Montana Board of Regents member and University of Montana Western alumna Angela McLean gave the commencement address. McLean, who earned a broadfield social sciences degree from Western Montana College (now the University of Montana Western) in 1994, was also honored with her alma mater’s 2009 Distinguished Service Award. McLean graduated from high school in Twin Bridges, Mont. in 1989. After earning her undergraduate degree from Western Montana College, McLean earned a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from The University of Montana in 2000. McLean taught at the middle and high school levels in Arlee and Anaconda, Mont. and currently teaches classes in the Anaconda Senior High School and in the Montana Tech of The University of Montana Jump Start program. In October 2007, McLean was named Montana 's Milken Educator. Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer appointed McLean to the Montana Board of Public Education in 2006. She was elected the vice president in 2007, holding that post until her appointment to the Montana Board of Regents in 2010.
