By Lowell Peterson The University of Montana Western Bulldogs men’s and women’s rodeo teams finished first at the Big Sky Region - Miles Community College rodeo in Miles City, Mont. held from Sept. 23 to 25. The Bulldogs’ Hannah Sharon won the Women’s All-around title with 200 points and Tucker Zingg finished second in the Men’s All-around with 215 points. AJ St. Goddard and Zingg tied for third place and Chase Redfield finished seventh in bareback riding. Kody Lahaye won the tie down roping event and Chase Briggs finished seventh. Bridger Chambers finished second in the steer wrestling contest. Chicky Wines (header) and partner Zingg (heeler) won the team roping event. For the Montana Western women, Sharon placed fourth in barrel racing and teammate Melissa Prescott finished sixth. The Bulldogs had four women finish in the top ten in breakaway roping, Cassie Woosley (first), Sharon (third), Cassidy Nordahl (fifth) and Prescott (tied for eighth). Megan Crist won the goat tying event and Justinn Marshall finished sixth. Both the Montana Western men’s and women’s rodeo teams are in second place in the seven-team Big Sky Region (BSR) standings. Zingg and Chambers are third and fourth respectively in the BSR Men’s All-around standings. In the BSR standings for saddle bronc riding, Tanner Denton is ninth, Devin Norcutt 11th, Johnathan Ensign 12th and Douglas Hall tied for 14th. Zingg is fourth in bareback riding and Redfield is eighth. Drew Baker is in ninth place in bull riding. Lahaye is on top of the BSR standings in tie down roping and four teammates are in the top fifteen: Colt Gardner (seventh), Colton sergeant (11th), Chambers and Casey Waldhauser (tied for 14th). Chambers is third in steer wrestling, Reef Mills (seventh), Matthew Irish (10th) and Layhaye (15th). Montana Western holds the top two spots in team roping. The team of Wines/Zingg sits in first place closely followed by the Chambers/Briggs duo. The Lahaye/Gardner team is tied for fourteenth. In the BSR women’s standings, Kylene Reynolds is sixth in barrel racing, Prescott is ninth and Sharon 10th. In breakaway roping, Woosley is third and Sharon is fifth. Bulldog Megan Crist is first in goat tying and Nordahl is third. Marshall (ninth), Samantha Naveran (10th) and Kelli Saltness (tied for 11th) are also in the top fifteen. The Bulldog rodeo teams close out the fall portion of their rodeo schedule at home in Dillon, Mont.
