The Disclaimer Show starring Clark in the Dark and The Piano Man Sunday 10 a.m.-Noon
We play classical selections for the first hour of our show, followed by a “melting pot” hour featuring Pop, Rock, Jazz, and International selections, or anything we feel like playing. Also, we feature scathing criticism of all peoples, politicians, and those newsworthy every hour, giving us much need to play that disclaimer, which attributed to the name of our show.
Dr. John’s Record Shelf
Sunday 5-7 p.m.
An eclectic mix of music, comedy and other features—we’re doing our best to bring back the style of radio that was common prior to deregulation and corporate takeover—that is, trying to utilize the full potential of the medium with creativity, wit and personality. In other words, Dr. John and co-host Art Vandelay (ably assisted by our lackey, Rico Muckman) are on a mission to bring back radio’s golden era! Regular features include “Dr. John’s Top Five List,” “Record Shelf Theatre,” and “Three People I Know” (in which I try to mention everyone I’ve ever met, 3 at a time). We occasionally do theme shows, like international music or the roots of punk rock, but most weeks we mix it up to keep the listeners on their toes. Comments on the show can be sent to our e-mail address: RECORDSHELF@hotmail.com. We are the only show to air continuously in the same time slot since KDWG went on the air in January 2001.
Radio Free Western
Monday 5-6 p.m., Replayed Thursday 1-2 p.m. Radio Free Western is a weekly talk show sponsored by the History, Philosophy, and Social Sciences Department. Dr. John Hajduk hosts the program. HPSS Department members Sean Eudaily, Michael Francisconi, Sara Glasgow, Bill Janus, and Jennifer Brown have also contributed material for the program. "Our intention is not to promote a particular partisan position or philosophy," said Hajduk, "but rather to provide some thoughtful conversation on matters of public concern and provide additional perspective that our listeners may draw on in shaping their impressions of current events." Past program topics include health care, science and intelligent design, national security issues, land use policy, poetry, religion and politics, and media history. The Tyler Show starring Tyler Osborne, AKA Ozzy Monday 6-8 p.m.
I play a lot of louder music that might not be heard as much in the area, some music that is heavy. I also try to include as many requests that time allows and say almost any random thought I feel like mentioning that may be floating around in my head. Type of music involved includes Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, Heavy Metal, New Wave, Death Metal, Black Metal, and Thrash Metal.
Perceptions with the Blue Collar DJ
Monday 8-10 p.m.
Perceptions has been on almost as long as the station has been on the air. On occasion I like to do a thematic show. Perhaps I’ll do a holiday show or a current events show (election day and such). Sometimes my show features a certain type of music, women artists, or shows like “Big Band” music, for example. There have also been geographic/ethnic shows. I’ve even been known to play the odd radical labor song. One common thread is that I always play music not commonly heard in southwest Montana.
Drive Time with the Rock Doctor
Tuesday and Thursday 4-5:30 p.m.
Top 20 countdowns of popular music from 1954 to 1974. Emphasis is on the history behind the music, the important issues of the time periods covered, and the history of popular and counter culture of the period: 1954-1974. Every once in a while, I do an educational show on earth science topics like earthquakes, global warming, and evolution, with appropriate music to support the theme of the show.
Poetics Rock Show
Tuesday 5-8:00 p.m. What's Up Western? Wednesday 5-5:30 p.m. What's Up Western? is a public-interest show that will discuss upcoming events, community-service organizations, and anything else going on not only on the UM-Western campus, but also the greater Dillon community and southwest Montana. This show just started and plays a wide variety of music from Classic Punk and Rock to Zydeco to Bluegrass to Alternative to some Metal with some educational commentary on the music. The emphasis is music that is a little different than typical radio fare. In the future there will be some discussion and guest DJs.
