Q & A

UMW News Bureau

How is the project being funded? A. The project is being funded from two sources: $4.5 million was authorized by the
Montana Legislature in 2007 and $6 million is from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, the federal stimulus package. How is the money spent? A. Part of the state money was used for the planning and programming, and the remainder will be used in construction. The ARRA monies will be used on construction. How does the job bidding process work? The State of Montana Projects through the State of Montana Department of
Administration, Architecture and Engineering, which oversees the entire bidding procedure. The state prepares, solicits and awards the bid per state regulations. When will construction begin? Construction began in the summer of 2009. Can you describe the project? The project is divided into two phases. Phase I is planning and programming and construction. Phase II is construction. Will local contractors be used on the project? All contractors in the state have the opportunity to bid on projects or on sub-contractor possibilities under primary contractor. Several area contractors are already at work at other projects on the Montana Western campus. Are there any significant changes in the renovation plans? A. Some offices will move, but the construction will not effect the historical integrity of the buildings.
