Leslie Furniss, a natural horsemanship major from Frenchtown, Mont., was crowned Miss Rodeo Montana in Great Falls at the Northern Rodeo Finals. Furniss was the 2006 Miss Southeastern Montana Rodeo and Miss Rodeo Western Montana the following year. She was runner-up at the pageant three years ago and also finished in the top-10 in the 2007 Miss Montana Scholarship pageant. "There is a lot that goes into it," Furniss said. "You're judged on so many different things." Miss Rodeo Montana candidates are judged on speeches, interviews, the understanding of current events, and most importantly, horsemanship. After graduation from Montana Western, she plans to pursue a masters of counseling and psychology with an emphasis on equine assisted mental health. "I'm looking forward to all the people I'll meet," she said. "It's going to be a full-time job." Shantell Frame, another Montana Western student, was also a contestant in the pageant.
