UMW News BureauFourth generation alumni Wally and Mike Feldt set up a memorial scholarship to honor their mother and benefit student athletes. By Wally Feldt Mike and Wally Feldt have established a memorial scholarship through the University of Montana Western Foundation in memory of their mother Jean S. Feldt. The scholarship will be offered in the amount of $500. The initial scholarship will be awarded for the 2009-2010 academic year and then awarded annually. Jean was a 1965 graduate of Western Montana College (now Montana Western). She taught for over 30 years in Townsend, Mont., Deer Lodge, Mont. and Dillon, Mont. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a Montana Western female student athlete with a minimum 3.3 GPA. An elementary education major is preferred. Theresa Bennett, a junior from Dillon, Mont., is the scholarship’s first recipient. She is a business education major with a 3.96 GPA. Bennett is member of the Bulldog volleyball team. She was named Newcomer of the Year in the Frontier Conference. Bennett is the daughter of Cindy Bennett of Dillon, Mont. and Keith Chambers of Stevensville, Mont. The scholarship recipient will be chosen by Mike and Wally from recommendations of the UMW scholarship committee.
