Bulldogs Sign First Recruits

University of Montana Western head football coach Tommy Lee announced the first group of student-athletes to sign NAIA/Frontier Conference letters of intent to play football.
Justin Kaiuua Barit is a 5’8”, 215 lb linebacker from Waialua, Hawaii. Barit transfers to Montana Western from Menlo College. He is a 2004 graduate of Waialua High and Intermediate School. Barit earned first team All-Conference honors. He is the son of Kuulei and Lincoln Barit.
Jacoby Covington is a 5’10”, 205 lb running back from Hawthrone, Nevada. He transfers from Feather River Community College. Covington is a 2005 graduate of McQueen High School where he participated in football, basketball and track. Covington was selected to play the Nevada All-Star game. He also received honorable mention All-Conference honors in basketball. Covington plans to major in business management. He is the son of Dorothea Lee and Harold Covington.
Kekoa Crowell is a 6’2”, 195 lb quarterback from Lihue, Hawaii. He transfers from Orange Coast Community College. He is a 2005 graduate of Kauai High School where he earned All-State and All-Conference honors. He also competed in basketball, baseball and track. Last season at Orange Community College, Crowell passed for 1336 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is the son of Robert Crowell and Paula Moniz and plans too major in business.
Mike Johnson is a 6’1”, 266 lb defensive lineman from Clark Fork, Idaho. He transfers from Mayville State College. Johnson is a 2005 graduate of Clark Fork High School where he earned All-League and All-State honors and was selected Defensive Player of the Year. Johnson is the son of Dave and Kathy Johnson and plans to major in health and human performance.
"We are very excited about these four transfer student athletes. They are a nice fit within our system, our school and our community,” said recruiting coordinator Travis Domser. “We hope that these players will continue their hard work and be a big part of what we are doing in our program immediately."

Bulldogs Impressive in Classroom

The football coaching staff at the University of Montana Western takes academics very seriously. The success of the Bulldog football program extends beyond the playing field and into the classroom. That is reflective in the classroom performance of players in the program.
50 players recorded a 3.0 or higher GPA. Three players recorded a perfect 4.00 GPA.
The entire football staff is committed to providing an organized approach to balancing the rigorous demands of academics and athletics.
“I am very proud of our players,” said Bulldog football coach Tommy Lee. “Competing on the collegiate level requires a tremendous time commitment from the student athlete. They are challenged on a daily basis balancing academics and athletes. To achieve this caliber of academic success shows the quality of the student athletes in our program.”
