Freshman Quarterback Earns Player of the Week Honors

Henry Keomalu, 5’9”, 175 lbs, redshirt freshman, quartrerback, from Waianae, Hawaii was named the Frontier Conference Offensive Player of the Week in the final week of the regular season.

In the Bulldogs' 41-21 win over Rocky Mountain, Keomalu was 35 of 52 passing for 426 yards and five touchdowns. His 35 completions was one short of a school record.

Bulldogs End Season With Romp Over Rocky

Freshman redshirt quarterback Henry Keomalu threw for 426 yards and five touchdowns as the Bulldogs rolled over Rocky Mountain 41-21 in the final conference game of the season for both teams.

The Bulldogs end the 2007 season with a 5-5 Frontier Conference mark and 5-6 overall. The win also ended a four game losing streak for the Bulldogs.

Keomalu three for 300 yards alone in the first half as the Bulldogs came back from a 14-7 deficit.

Craigh Cornelius led the Bulldog receivers with nice catches for 128 yards and two touchdowns (45.27) . Also catching scoring strikes for the Bulldogs were Derrick Pluff (36), MIchael Guelff (24) and Jeff Schultz (3). Eleven different Bulldog receivers caught passes in the win. Colton Woods kicked field goals of 23 and 19 to round out the Bulldog scoring.

The Bulldogs rolled up 554 yards in total offense and held Rocky to 232.

Bulldogs Close Season at Rocky

The University of Montana Western Bulldogs face the Rocky Mountain College Bears in Billings, Mont. for the final Frontier Conference game for both teams. Kick-off is 12 p.m. from Herb Klindt Field.

The game will be broadcast live in southwest Montana on KDBM radio.

The Bulldogs are 4-5 in the Frontier and 4-6 overall after last weekend’s 30-16 loss to league champion Carroll College.

Rocky is 3-6 in the conference and 4-6 overall after beating MSU-Northern in Havre 16-10.

Montana Western beat the Bears 45-30 on Oct. 6. The Bulldogs led Rocky 38-10 at the half and then held off a Rocky comeback. The Bears held Montana Western to one touchdown in the second half and scored 20 points. In the game, the Bulldogs lost starting quarterback Keali’I Perbera to a season ending injury.

The Bears are last in the Frontier in scoring offense, averaging 13.6 points per game, while Montana Western is second averaging 22.9 points per game. The Bulldogs are last in scoring defense, giving up 33.2 points per game while Rocky is third in scoring defense, giving up 23.5 points per game.

The Bulldogs are second in total offense averaging 354 yards per game, but are last in total defense, giving up 438 yards per game. Rocky is fourth in total defense, giving up 355 yards a game.

Rocky quarterback Drew Hedrick leads the Frontier in individual total offense with 229.9 yards per game. Against the Bulldogs in October, Hedrick threw for 350 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite missing two games, Bulldog receiver Craigh Corneilus continues to lead the conference in receiving yards per game with 90.8 yards per game.

Bulldog linebacker Chad Schira continues to lead the Frontier and the NAIA in total tackles with 14.2 per game

Bulldogs Drop Conference Game to Unbeaten Carroll

The University of Montana Western lost to unbeaten Carroll College 30-16 in a Frontier Conference football game from Dillon’s Vigilante Field.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 4-5 in league play and 4-6 overall. Carroll is now 10-0 oveall and 9-0 in the Frontier.

The two teams played a scoreless first quarter. Carroll got on the scoreboard first with a Marcus Miller 40 yard field goal.

The Saints made it 10-0 on their second possession of the second quarter. Carroll scored after a Montana Western interception and led 17-0 at the half.

In the second, a second Montana Western interception led to another Carroll touchdown and a 24-0 lead. Two third quarter Marcus Miller field goals stretched the Carroll lead to 30-0.

In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs got on the board after a Carroll high snap led to a safety.

Henry Keomalu hit Kahai Sevilla on an 18 yard scoring strike that made score 30-9.

After a successful onside kick, the Bulldogs made it 30-16 with Keomalu
four yard touchdown pass to Jerry Schmitz with a second left to play.

Turnovers and penalties plagued the Bulldogs in the conference match-up.

Keomalu threw for 185 yards to 12 different receivers. Pono Mathews had four catches for 23 yards.

Chad Schira, the nation’s leading tackler, led the Bulldog defense with 16 tackles.

Bulldogs Host Carroll in Frontier Conference Football

The University of Montana Western Bulldogs host the Carroll College Saints in a Frontier Conference football game on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007.

Kickoff is 12 p.m. from Dillon’s Vigilante Field. It is Parent’s Day.

Montana Western is 4-4 in conference play and 4-5 overall after last weekend’s 28-21 loss to Montana Tech.

Carroll is 8-0 in league and 9-0 overall and ranked #2 in the latest NAIA Top-25 after edging MSU-Northern 10-7 last Saturday.

When Carroll and Western met a month ago, both were unbeaten in conference play. The Saints won 42-0 in Helena. Carroll held the Bulldogs to 159 yards in total offense.

Carroll has a five game winning streak over the Bulldogs. The last Western win came in 2004 when the Bulldogs won 26-17 in Helena.

The Bulldogs have struggled on offense of late and now face the nation’s stingiest defense. Western averages 358 yards and 23.7 points per game.

Junior running Derrick Pluff continues to lead the Frontier in rushing with 831 yards and eight touchdowns on 149 carries. Pluff also leads the league in touchdowns scored.

Carroll leads the nation in total defense, scoring defense and pass defense. The Saints give up a skimpy 2.1 points and 176 yards a game.

Bulldog sophomore linebacker Chad Schira leads the Frontier Conference and the nation in tackles. In nine games, Schira has 40 unassisted tackles and 86 assisted tackles for a total of 126 tackles or 14 tackles per game.

Montana Western closes out the regular season next weekend at Rocky Mountain.
